Policier
Self published, 20 printed, 1998

I recorded this between 1996-1998 on a 4-track, with electric bass, drum machine, a delay unit, a casio, a mic, and a small non-keyboard sampler unit. I mixed most tracks out to DAT, and some to CDR when I couldn't borrow the DAT recorder. Self-released on cassette in '98. I remember that I made about 20. If anyone has one still, I'd love to get a copy.

Game Heaven (aka We Are Writing A Book; aka SOUNDTRAX; aka Game Sountrak)
Distributed History, 2001

First release in the Title Variable project (2001 — ongoing). There was an earlier version, the first edition really, called "We Are Writing A Book," (I was thinking of the internet as a book), but this one here was the first public edition, of 15; these were sold at Dia Center For The Arts, Printed Matter and Whitney Museum bookstore. Also released in second and third printings with different covers and slightly different track listing. Some of the versions have tracks by myself that I snuck in there.

Army Jacket
Distributed History, 2002

Limited to 100 copies, Re-release of 2002 self-published CDR

Army Jacket
Dais Records, 2012

10th Anniversary reissue. Hand numbered edition of 500.

"From Modern Painters:
'Here’s Modern Painters Editor in Chief Daniel Kunitz showing off his limited edition vinyl copy of Seth Price‘s Army Jacket, a reissue from Dais Records of music made between 2000 and 2002. We’ve been listening to it at work and feeling…very….strange. And here we thought demented genius John Maus had a monopoly on providing the sensation that we’d accidentally ingested rare hallucinogens that put us on the cusp of a maybe-good, maybe-bad trip. Army Jacket bills itself as “avant-pop,” which is perhaps an appropriate term for ‘pop’ music that’s been put in a straitjacket, sent into outer space, punched in the face a few times, and then drowned in a river of synths, reverb, 80s video game noises, wobbly Theremin noises, dispassionately creepy vocals imploring you to “make it work,” and whatever other tools Price has up his sleeve.'"

Iron Curtain Girl
Distributed History, 2002

I recorded these tracks as instrumentals, mostly in 2000 and early 2001, for a release called 'New York Woman,' a self-published CD I distributed with a video-lecture I did of the same name. Over the next year or so I recorded the vocals for most of the tracks and released it, again self-published, as 'Iron Curtain Girl'.

Gowanus (Seth Price & Stefan Tcherepnin)
Distributed History, 2007

Stefan Tcherepnin and I recorded these tracks in my Gowanus studio. This was a live improvisation session, recorded directly to a CD recorder (!). Stefan was on the Serge Modular Synthesizer. I was using a Korg M1, drum machine, effects, and 2 mixers. Both of us used the microphone. These 5 bits of noise were excerpted from the discs. We made a limited-release CDR at the time.
